Sustainable Urbanisation – bridging the development and growth 14.5.19
Venue: Aalto University, Main building Dipoli, Auditorium: Lumituuli (address Otakaari 24, Espoo, Finland)
The seminar ‘Sustainable Urbanisation – bridging development and growth’ brings together those ‘Urbanising Society’ projects funded within the ‘Strategic Research Programme’ 2016‒2019. These research projects have been examining different dimensions of recent urbanisation and subsequent impacts on Finland and other countries. The seminar aims to increase understanding of the topic and to make the generated knowledge usable in general decision-making processes and for urban and community planning. Presentations at this seminar will deal with, e.g. urban planning, mobility, housing and recourse wisdom. Researchers of the ‘Urbanising Society’ research projects will present their findings at the seminar.

URMI Foresight Seminar 21.5.2019 “Puzzling urbanization”
Time: 10:00 – 15:30 / 16:00
Date: 21.5.2019
Venue: Eurooppa-sali, Kamppi, Malminkatu 16, Helsinki
Mitä hyötyä erilaisista tulevaisuusharjoitteista on? Mitkä kaupungistumisen ajurit ovat pysyviä, mitkä väistyviä ja mitkä vasta tekevät tuloaan? How should we try to anticipate the future of urbanization? What are the drivers of European urbanization in the coming decades? How should we make sense of them in the Finnish context?
In the foresight seminar organized by the URMI project, we will hear presentations on urban dynamics as well as on possibilities to anticipate their future. There will be two keynote speeches by foreign guests, both top-notch scholars in their fields:
Arjan van Timmeren is the Professor of Environmental Technology at TU Delft Department of Urbanism, in the Netherlands. He is specialised on urban dynamics and theories of complexity.
Kerstin Cuhls works as a scientific project manager at the Frauenhofer Institute in Karlsruhe, Germany, where her projects deal with Futures Research methods and technology foresight in Asia and Europe.
The seminar includes also inputs from Finnish experts. They will present recent contributions in the field of urban futures as the basis for discussion.
